OUR STORY & VISSION
OUR STORY & VISSION
Our Story
City Greens Community Farm was founded in 2020 with a simple mission: to cultivate health and well-being through local food with hands-on community involvement. As a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, we work to promote sustainability, environmental stewardship, and grow and distribute healthy food, while providing students access to advanced technology and progressive curriculum in an educational urban farm. By bringing agriculture to schools, City Greens educates on the importance of sustainability and demonstrates how new technology can provide access to local food and promote food security and justice to our community.
Our Vision
Our farm is more than a place to grow food; it is a tool to uplift the community. Through farming, we share stories, build connections, and help people of all ages discover a meaningful relationship with their food and the land.
Working with partners around the country, we have had the privilege of teaching over 750 kids and adults. Each interaction reinforces our belief in the power of community and education to create a sustainable future. Join us as we continue this journey, growing not just plants, but a healthier, more connected community.

✺ Frequently asked questions ✺
-
A hydroponic farm is a way of growing plants without soil, using nutrient-rich water solutions to nourish the plants. This allows plants to grow faster, use less water, and require less space compared to traditional farming. Our hydroponic systems also operate indoors, allowing for year-round production.
Our farm primarily grows leafy greens, lettuce varieties and herbs.
-
We offer various programs, including workshops on hydroponic farming, environmental sustainability, and nutrition. Our programs cater to students, teachers, and community members, providing hands-on experiences and valuable skills. We work with schools on helping to set up school gardens, either in hydroponic towers or outdoor raised beds. If you would like to get your school involved fill out this form.
-
Hydroponics uses up to 90% less water and 95% less land than traditional farming. It reduces the need for pesticides and herbicides, and our indoor systems allow us to grow produce year-round in any climate. Additionally, plants grow 2 to 3 times faster in a hydroponic system, allowing for more produce in a shorter amount of time.
-
The towers require approximately a half hour a week of maintenance. See attached sheet for details.
-
We distribute fresh produce to local food banks, veteran’s organizations, and subsidized housing facilities, helping make healthy food more accessible to everyone. Additionally, we offer educational workshops, field trips, and internships to engage and inform the community about sustainable farming practices.

As a nonprofit, we rely on donations, grants, and sponsorships from individuals, businesses, and foundations. We also offer membership and produce subscription programs that contribute to our operating costs.
We welcome volunteers to assist with planting, harvesting, and maintaining the farm. Volunteering is a fantastic way to learn about hydroponics and sustainable agriculture. Please fill out this form to learn more and sign up.
