School programs

City Greens is committed to providing age-appropriate, inclusive, student-centered, hands-on experiences for K-12 students.  All school programs, both virtual and in-person, are open to all ages and learning styles.

We will design each program specifically to enhance the students' introduction to urban farming, providing opportunities to ask questions, engage in hands-on activities, and have the space to examine what the future of farming looks like.

Benefits of Farm-to-School Education

Farm-to-school programs build crucial community connections with local farmers. The ability to meet and build relationships with farmers is one of the key advantages of purchasing locally sourced-food. These connections not only support the local business but also help kids learn about their food system.

These initiatives also help to reduce a school’s impact on the environment by minimizing food waste and food miles from the field to students.

Benefits of farm-to-school programs:

  • Increase food access and nutrition security.

  • Support local food purchasing from California producers.

  • Promote educational activities that use food as a teaching tool to connect classrooms, cafeterias, and communities.

  • Create experiential learning opportunities in school gardens, culinary classes, agricultural programs, and other hands-on learning experiences to help youth better understand the connections between food and the world around them.

  • Educate students about how they can be environmental stewards from the earliest of ages.
